Budget

Since 2011 we have tried to be “cost-effective” that means to improve the life of children and youth from a specific region of Cambodia (Kep, Kampot and Takeo, with some actions in Ratanakiri Province with ethnic minorities.) We have designed our Technical School and Children Fund in Kep as a sustainable project. There is much to be done, especially in the running cost. The gradual raising of the Cambodian minimum wage, the inflation, the fall of the Euro (many support comes in that currency, making us to lost many points in the support), the global crisis and many other aspects, have become a challenge for us. Our priority is to increase incomes through some activities we have inside the school to raise funds.

Thanks for coming into this page and studying our current Running Cost. Thanks for ideas, observations, questions, suggestions that will help us to stabilize our finances and keep in our mission to the benefit of the poorest and at risk.

Some observations:

Our cost-effectiveness figures

It is true that we do our best to support a child or a young person with the minimum monthly cost. For example, in our Don Bosco Kep Children Fund, we ask support as $25 per month or $300 per year to keep a child into school. For our Technical School, a student needs only $100 per semester. These figures are very important to keep the mission to support the poorest, but they are not the real cost. If you will propose that we should increase, for example, the fee for a technical student in order to cover the real cost, we will lost the poor. We have in Cambodia families living for 1 dollar per day (and we are talking about big rural families). $100 per semester is already a fortune for the kind of youth we want to support.

In such a situation, we need to understand the principles of our real cost:

  • Life impact: We change the lives of children and youth, who have little opportunities to success inside the Cambodian social context of today. Such change does not come from a simple providing of goods or money at hand.
  • Change Process: The change we want to create in our children and youth comes from a full process that includes administrative actions, human resources and case studies.
